Everyone always says, “Follow your dreams!” But not everyone does it.

Life is rough & tough, bills pile up, and sometimes we have to do jobs we don’t want to do just to make it through the day. However, there are a number of reasons to follow your dreams, to break the trend, and to live the life you’ve always wanted. Why follow your dreams? Here’s what pursuing your dreams does:

1. They make life worth living.

Your dreams are what can get you through even the worst days. If you are struggling, your dreams are your reason to keep going.

They are why you wake up in the morning and try again. They are what makes your entire life worth living.

Without our dreams, we are nothing.

When you take massive action you honor your commitment to yourself and your goal and keep going no matter what. When you fail, or something doesn’t work out, it’s not a problem, it’s just part of the process. You need to be willing to recalibrate, shift gears, and keep going. Try, fall down, fail, try again.

Massive action is a concept I learned about when I was doing life coach training. Most of us (myself included!) get stuck in a pattern of taking passive action – we consume massive amounts of information and spend countless hours thinking about our goals, without actually taking action. Sound familiar?

The concept of taking massive action simply means that you commit to taking action until you get your desired results. This sounds deceptively simple, but do not underestimate how impactful it can be when put into practice.

 

When you take massive action you must anticipate that there will be setbacks and challenges ahead, and accept that overcoming them will be part of the process – not a reason to justify quitting. Most of us are willing to stumble or fall once, maybe twice, in pursuit of our goals. It takes real courage, determination, and commitment to be willing to fail as many times as it takes to reach our goals.

Pick One Goal to Focus On

It doesn’t matter what the goal is. It can be a big, juicy goal like starting your own business, or something as small as wanting to learn a new skill. All that matters is that you pick one and commit to it.

Define Your Desired Results

Make sure you have a metric to gauge when you have reached your goal. Make your goal specific, measurable, and achievable. If you want to make more money, set a concrete goal like earning six figures by the end of 2018.

Take Massive Action + Embrace Failure

When you take massive action you honor your commitment to yourself and your goal and keep going no matter what. When you fail, or something doesn’t work out, it’s not a problem, it’s just part of the process. You need to be willing to recalibrate, shift gears, and keep going. Try, fall down, fail, try again. This practice will help you build both resilience and confidence. The best part is massive action eliminates failure as an option – you’re either succeeding or your learning.

Confucius said, “The superior man is modest in his speech but exceeds in his actions.” Success is a product of taking massive action in the right direction. We must cultivate the habit of taking prompt action on what we know and have in the present. Make mistakes, improve on your previous knowledge, and make better decisions. After you’ve designed your goals, then you need to write down the actions that need to be taken for the realization of the goals.

There are many ways of going forward, but only one way of standing still- not taking action! Contrary to normal belief, we don’t get tired because we are taking more action steps, we get tired when we don’t take any action at all! Even if you are slow in making decisions, you can compensate for this weakness by being prompt and quick to act.

One man that exemplified the science of taking massive actions is Thomas Alva Edison, an American inventor and one of the greatest innovators of all time. During his career, Edison patented more than 1000 inventions, including the electric light, the phonograph, and the motion-picture camera. In the period from 1878 to 1880 after Edison had built a small laboratory in New Jersey, he worked on at least three thousand different theories to develop an efficient incandescent lamp. Many inventors had tried ever before him but couldn’t produce perfect incandescent lamps. By January 1879, Edison had built the first high resistance incandescent electric light just as he desired but still, the lamp only burned for a few hours.

Many of us set goals, but not many of us create massive action plans to see those goals through to fruition.

But massive action is the fuel that powers the engine that we call life. Without taking massive action, we couldn’t realize our goals – we’d be stuck in neutral, unable to get from Point A to Point B.

Yet, how difficult do we find it to take action on our goals?  We tend to constantly get sidetracked and veer off on tangents, unable to focus our energy and efforts on consistently taking massive action.

Why?

This is partly attributed to our poor habits, but there’s far more involved. Most us don’t set goals the right way to begin with. We have some abstract notion of what we want in our minds, but it lacks specifics along with a concrete plan.

In a 2007 goal setting study by Quirklolgy, it was determined that only 12% of the people who had set New Year’s resolutions had actually achieved them, while at the outset 52% were positive that success was attainable.

Yet, if those individuals had set S.M.A.R.T.E.R. Goals, their likelihood of success would have skyrocketed.

In another study conducted on a Harvard MBA Class, the students, upon graduation, were asked one simple question: Do you have specific goals for the future with a concrete plan for their attainment.

From that class, only 3% had answered yes to that question. Just 3% had set specific goals with a plan towards their attainment – they had created a massive action plan to achieve their goals. 13% of the class had goals but they lacked plans to achieve them. 84% of the class had set no goals at all.

Ten years later it was determined that the 13% of the class that had goals but lacked plans were making twice as much money as the 84% that had set no goals at all. But, the 3% of the class that had set goals with plans for their achievement were making 10 times as much as the other 97% of the class.

Yes, 10 times as much.
